About This Photography Workshop & Retreat
From 23–27 October 2026, a select group of wedding photographers will gather on the coast of Montenegro for a fully immersive five-day fine art wedding intensive hosted by Mati Machner in collaboration with Frame The Balkans.
Light & Shadow is built for photographers who want to refine their visual language and create destination wedding work that feels timeless, intentional, and emotionally grounded.
This is not a trend-driven styled shoot. It is a carefully produced experience focused on mastering natural light, shaping shadow, strengthening composition, and developing a refined fine art aesthetic.
Over five immersive days, you will photograph a fully produced luxury wedding day with real guests, four curated fine art editorial couple shoots, and one relaxed lifestyle session designed around authenticity and movement.
Each production is intentionally crafted around architecture, texture, composition, and controlled natural light. Every scene gives you the space to create cohesive, elevated work rather than simply collecting disconnected portfolio images.
Mati Machner will lead an in-depth masterclass covering his creative philosophy, approach to light and shadow, composition, storytelling, and the thinking behind building a distinctive fine art wedding brand with longevity. The focus is not only on how to create an image, but understanding why it works.
Beyond the productions, one full Coastal Inspiration Day is dedicated to experiencing Montenegro, recharging creatively, and connecting with fellow photographers away from the pressure of a shooting schedule.
Selected European flights, accommodation, transfers, breakfast and dinner are included, allowing you to arrive and focus on the experience while Frame The Balkans handles the production and logistics.
Light & Shadow is five days dedicated to creating stronger work, developing your visual identity, and experiencing Montenegro alongside photographers who take their craft seriously.

Elisa Ruggiero is a professional wedding and portrait photographer with over seven years of experience working with couples, families, and destination clients across Europe. Her work is rooted in real emotion, natural movement, and refined composition.
Throughout each Frame the Balkans retreat, Elisa works closely with photographers, videographers, and models on set, guiding the creative process and helping participants translate ideas into authentic, portfolio-worthy images. She focuses on light awareness, emotional storytelling, and intentional direction—ensuring every shoot feels effortless, elegant, and true to the moment.
As co-founder of Frame the Balkans, Elisa leads the photographic vision of the retreats, supporting creatives at every level while maintaining a calm, collaborative atmosphere that allows creativity to flow naturally.

Creative Director & Co-Founder
Liridon Pacolli is the co-founder and creative director behind Frame the Balkans. His role centers on building the structure, flow, and overall experience of each retreat—rather than being behind the camera.
He works closely with partners, designers, stylists, decor teams, venues, and logistics providers to shape the creative framework that supports every event. From location scouting and scheduling to production planning and on-site coordination, Liridon ensures that every detail aligns with the vision and runs seamlessly.
His focus is on creating the right conditions for photographers, videographers, and creatives to concentrate fully on their work—removing friction, distractions, and unnecessary pressure—so that each retreat feels professionally organized and creatively inspiring.
